US Department of State sanctioned six individuals in connection with the arbitrary detention of Vladimir Kara-Murza (3rd March 2023)

"Today, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Elena Anatolievna Lenskaya, Andrei Andreevich Zadachin, and Danila Yurievich Mikheev for their involvement in serious human rights abuse against human rights defender, prominent opposition leader, author, and historian Vladimir Kara-Murza (Kara-Murza). These individuals are being designated pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13818, which builds upon and implements the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act and targets perpetrators of serious human rights abuse and corruption around the world."

“The U.S. Treasury joins our many national and international partners in calling for Vladimir Kara-Murza’s immediate and unconditional release,” said Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson. “His arbitrary detention is another instance of the Kremlin manipulating Russia’s legal system to silence dissent. Kara-Murza, Alexei Navalny, and so many others in Russia who are unjustly imprisoned are not forgotten, and we will continue to promote accountability for perpetrators of these abuses on the international stage.”

Canadian government sanctioned nine individuals, in relation to Vladimir Kara-Murza's unlawful arrest and abuses (10th November 2022)

"On November 10 2022, Canada further amended the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations to add 23 individuals who are members of the Russian justice and security sector, including police officers and investigators, prosecutors, judges and prison officials, including senior Russian government officials. They have been involved in gross and systematic human rights violations in Russia against opposition leaders, including Vladimir Kara-Murza, Alexey Navalny and other Russian citizens."

United Kingdom Government sanctioned six individuals in connection with the arbitrary arrest of Vladimir Kara-Murza (21st April 2023)

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said:

"Russia’s treatment and conviction of Vladimir Kara-Murza once again demonstrates its utter contempt for basic human rights.

Today five individuals connected to his case have been sanctioned, sending a clear message that the UK will not stand for this treatment of one of its citizens.

The UK will continue to support Mr Kara-Murza and his family. I call on Russia to release him immediately and unconditionally.

As a result of these sanctions all these individuals will be subject to travel bans and asset freezes.

On Monday the UK summoned the Russian Ambassador and condemned the sentencing – making it clear that the UK considers Mr Kara-Murza’s conviction to be contrary to Russia’s international obligations on human rights, including the right to a fair trial."

United Kingdom Government sanctioned six individuals in connection with the unjustifiable arrest of Vladimir Kara-Murza (31st July 2023)

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said:

"The rejection of Vladimir Kara-Murza’s appeal following his sentencing on bogus charges highlights the depravity of the Russian regime, and their complete disregard for human rights and freedom of expression.

Today we’ve sanctioned 6 people connected with his case, sending a clear message that the UK will not stand for this treatment of one of its citizens.

We will continue to support Mr Kara-Murza and his family, who have worked tirelessly to try and secure his release. I call on Russia to release him immediately and unconditionally."
